Rep. Blaine Wilhour (R-Beecher City), a conservative “Freedom Caucus” member of the House is being challenged by a heavily-union backed candidate, Fayette County GOP Chairman and former County Board member Matt Hall.
Hall, who is backed by the Illinois Education Association and is expected to receive funding from other unions, has gone up on television and radio with his first ads.
IEA’s political arm reported this week spending $43,000 on Hall’s behalf. Radio ads are being run on small stations in the Effingham and Vandalia areas. The first cable ads began running this week. Here’s a copy of the ad:
Wilhour released a statement Friday about the ad buy:
“My opponent has surrendered to the far left and has sold his soul to the most radical group involved in state government politics,” Wilhour said. “My opponent is taking money from the people who want to trans our kids, teach CRT in the classroom, oppose pro-life legislation, oppose the 2nd Amendment, and push for mask and vaccine mandates. You can be a grassroots conservative, or you can be a shill for the woke left but you can’t be both. The lines in this race are clearly drawn. I am the grassroots, conservative. My opponent is a puppet for the most extreme leftists in the state.”
