Could Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-Schaumburg) be waiting in the wings if Senator Dick Durbin chooses not to seek re-election in 2026?

Krishnamoorthi represents a district from the far western exurbs of Chicago and sneaks toward the city to include Elgin, Schaumburg, and portions of Rosemont and Hoffman Estates.

Krishnamoorthi, 50, first Indian-American member of Illinois’ congressional delegation has also earned a reputation as one of its most prolific fundraisers.

He ended September with around $14.5 million dollars in his campaign account, far outpacing the rest of the state’s delegation.

“He has his eyes on something, everyone assumes it’s the U.S. Senate,” said a Democratic operative. “But he has also ruffled a few feathers with some Democrats because he hasn’t been quick to help us win close races around the country.”

Krishnamoorthi’s district is considered relatively safe for Democrats. President Biden won the district by around 15 points in 2020. Krishnamoorthi won re-election in a 57%-43% race last year.
