It’s just one day of a weeklong filing period, but three members of Illinois’ Congressional delegation did not file petitions for the 2024 election Monday.

Congressman Jonathan Jackson (D-Chicago), Congresswoman Mary Miller (R-Hindsboro), and Congressman Eric Sorensen (D-Moline) did not file petitions Monday.

Miller has previously announced her plans to seek re-election (UPDATE: Miller filed Tuesday) and Democrats we spoke to Monday say they expect both freshmen Jackson and Sorensen to seek re-election.

  • Congressman Jesus Chuy Garcia (D-Chicago) is being challenged by Chicago Alderman Raymond Lopez in the 4th District primary.

  • Congressman Mike Quigley (D-Chicago) has a primary from Jerico Matias Cruz, an Army veteran who ran as an independent in 2022.

  • Congressman Sean Casten (D-Downers Grove) is being challenged in the primary by Charles Hughes of Chicago, who lost a 2022 primary against Casten and former Congresswoman Marie Newman.

  • Congressman Danny Davis (D-Chicago) is being challenged by Chicago City Treasurer Melissa Conyears-Ervin and Kouri Marshall, who previously worked in Governor JB Pritzker’s office.

  • Congressman Bill Foster (D-Naperville) has his expected primary against Qasim Rashid of Naperville. Foster has faced a tough challenge from the left before, barely beating now-Sen. Rachel Ventura in a primary in 2020.

  • The long-expected primary between Congressman Mike Bost (R-Murphysboro) and former Sen. Darren Bailey is on. Both men filed in the 12th District yesterday. The two did the media rounds at the State Board of Elections, and Bailey insinuated Bost was soft because he was…wearing a scarf on a 20 degree morning?

In the State Senate, only Sen. Jason Plummer (R-Edwardsville didn’t file Monday. He usually files at the end of the window, and he is expected to seek re-election.

Sen. Terri Bryant (R-Murphysboro) and GOP challenger Wesley Kash of Scheller both filed yesterday in the 58th District.

Appointed Sen. Natalie Toro (D-Chicago) is getting a challenge from Graciela Guzman in the 20th District. More filings are expected in that district.

Multi-person GOP primaries are on in the 37th and 53rd Senate Districts.

In the House, Rep. Kimberly Neely DuBuclet (D-Chicago), Rep. Sonya Harper (D-Chicago), Rep. Abdelnasser Rashid (D-Bridgeview), Rep. Angie Guerrero-Cuellar (D-Chicago), Rep. Edgar Gonzalez (D-Chicago), Rep. Theresa Mah (D-Chicago), Rep. Mary Flowers (D-Chicago), Rep. Bob Morgan (D-Deerfield), Rep. Dennis Tipsword (R-Metamora), Rep. Brad Halbrook (R-Shelbyville), and Rep.
