Pritzker Presents Budget Today at Noon
Governor JB Pritzker will present his third budget today in a combined State of the State and budget address. It will be presented virtually instead of the traditional speech before a joint session of the Illinois House and Senate.
In a “toplines” memo sent to certian media and lawmakers last week, the Governor’s office pledged a flat spending plan without raising taxes. The plan calls for increased funding for “vital services” like the Illinois Department of Public Health, Department of Children of Family Services, and Department of Employment Security.
The budget is expected to include closure of “corporate tax loopholes of $900 million,” though the loopholes have not been publicly identified. As of Tuesday evening, the Governor’s office had not discussed their proposal with the Illinois Chamber of Commerce, Illinois Manufacturers Association, or NFIB.
Republicans criticized Pritzker’s approach Monday before the proposal had been released.
The Governor’s speech is scheduled for noon today. We’ll share links on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
