We’re told both Decatur Mayor Julie Moore-Wolfe and Springfield Alderwoman Doris Turner, who is also the chair of the Sangamon County Democratic Party, have applied to replace former Senator Andy Manar in the Statehouse.

Manar resigned January 17 to take a job with the Governor’s office. The district extends from portions of Springfield and Decatur south to Madison County. It is considered a competitive district that was drawn specifically for Manar, though the district will be redrawn before the 2022 election cycle.

It is possible more candidates could be announced. One county chair told The Illinoize a full list of applicants would be released Wednesday.

There’s no word on when the successor will be chosen, but we’re told it is likely to be before the Senate returns to Springfield February 9th.
