Two sources confirm Sen. John Curran (R-Downers Grove) is challenging Senate Republican Leader Dan McConchie (R-Hawthorn Woods) for leadership.

Curran hasn't returned a call from The Illinoize, but we’re told there is a group of GOP conservatives unhappy with McConchie.

“There's a cutting off your nose to spite your face has emerged out of the fog of war,” said one Republican who supports McConchie.

Multiple Republicans are frustrated by the challenge after McConchie raised more money than Senate Republicans have in a decade and picked up a net of two seats this week. Republicans haven't picked up seats since 2014.

We’re told downstate conservative Sen. Neil Anderson (R-Andalusia) and Sen. Jason Plummer (R-Edwardsville) are strong proponents of Curran, who is a suburban moderate.

McConchie has not returned a call from The Illinoize.

If McConchie is deposed, Curran would be the the fourth Senate GOP Leader in five years.
