The super tight lipped Irvin campaign released a poll yesterday showing themselves with a six point lead. It was a poll conducted by GOP polling firm 1892 earlier this week and interviewed 700 likely voters.

  • Irvin 31%

  • Bailey 25%

  • Sullivan 11%

  • Rabine 8%

  • Schimpf 2%

  • Solomon 1%

  • Undecided 22%

The numbers are a little soft after spending $12 million on TV so far, but the Irvin folks claimed over $16 million has been spent against the Aurora Mayor so far. (combining the Pritzker campaign and DGA, Bailey campaign, and pro-Bailey Dan Proft PAC.

The Illinoize asked a few Republican operatives why the Irvin campaign would release a poll that follows the general thinking and previous polling on the race. One suggested it was a response to the new Pritzker attack we told you about yesterday. Another thought they’re trying to project strength ahead of another bad story. Though, there hasn’t been any indication more opposition research is leaking out.
