Top House Republicans confirmed Monday that Tony Esposito, the Executive Director of the House Republican Organization, has resigned.

The House Republican Organization, known by most as HRO, is the House GOP campaign arm.

Esposito joined HRO for the 2024 cycle after working on Scott Wehrli’s successful campaign for Naperville Mayor last year, Tom Demmer’s race for State Treasurer in 2022, and on the Richard Irvin for Governor campaign earlier that year. He is also an alum of the Rauner administration, Illinois GOP, as well as the offices of former Sen. Mark Kirk and Congressman John Shimkus.

No reason was given for his departure.

It leaves the GOP regrouping fewer than six months before the November election, though the House GOP has named longtime Illinois Opportunity Project Director Matt Besler as interim Executive Director.
