Rep. Dan Swanson (R-Alpha) may find himself in a primary next year with someone 1/3 his age.

21-year-old Matthew Rauschert of Avon, a farmer and industrial designer, says he’s planning to challenge Swanson, who has been in office since 2017. Swanson, 62, replaced longtime Rep. Don Moffitt.

Rauschert has never run for office and says he’s running on his lack of political experience. He’s openly supporting Sen. Darren Bailey (R-Xenia) for Governor.

Swanson currently represents the 74th district, but was drawn into the long, skinny 71st district in the new legislative maps. The district runs from the Quad Cities to Macomb. Obviously, the district could always change if Democrats make changes to districts or a court throws the maps out.

We attempted to reach Swanson through the House GOP campaign arm last week, but were not able to reach him.
