While lawmakers plan their return to Springfield next week, all eyes will be on if Democratic majorities will take action to help fund the migrant crisis in Chicago.

But, Sen. Steve McClure (R-Springfield) the GOP floor leader in the Senate, says he doesn’t believe there’s enough money for the state to step in.

“We don’t have the resources or the money,” McClure said. “I feel like the taxpayers of our state feel like the state is not doing enough to take care of them. I think we need to start here with the folks that are here who are suffering right now.”

McClure says the legislature shouldn’t be funding the migrant situation until it has its own house in order.

We asked McClure how Republicans would handle the situation.

“I think the solution is for Governor Pritzker to use his influence to get President Biden to actually secure the border and put together a comprehensive immigration plan,” McClure said. “At this point, President Biden has no plan whatsoever. He, like Governor Pritzker, just wants to blame everyone else for the problem.”
