Former Rep. Sauer Pleads Guilty in "Revenge Porn" Case

After a lengthy and embarrassing court battle, former Republican Rep. Nick Sauer has been sentenced to 90 days in jail for posting nude pictures of his ex-girlfriend on the internet without her permission, an act known as “revenge porn.”
Sauer, 41, resigned in 2018 after his actions surfaced.
The victim said she and Sauer met on a dating app and broke up in 2018 after she found out he was seeing other women. She later discovered an Instagram account with nude photos of her and said Sauer had been using the photos in conversations with other men.
In 2019, Sauer was charged with 12 felony counts of non-consensual dissemination of private sexual images.
After years of wrangling through the court system, Sauer pleaded guilty Monday and was sentenced to 90 days in jail and two years probation.
Sauer is set to report to jail December 29.
The district has been a bit of a hot potato since Sauer’s departure.
Helene Miller Walsh, the wife of ex-congressman and talk show host Joe Walsh, was appointed to fill Sauer’s seat. She lost to Democrat Mary Edly-Allen in the general election in 2018. Edly-Allen lost the seat to Republican Chris Bos in 2020. Bos lost the redistricted seat to Rep. Nabeela Syed (D-Palatine) in 2022.
