Election Night Live Blog

Let’s count ‘em.

11:18 p.m. - Still some races up in the air. The Congressional races in IL 13, 14 and 17 still too close to call (although Underwood has declared victory in 14). Patrick will have more in The Illinoize newsletter in the morning. Thanks for following along this evening. - BG

11:04 p.m. - Pekau has already conceded. Casten has declared victory. Now it’s all but official. Democrats hang on to a closely contested seat in the IL 6th.

11:00 p.m. - Another hold for Democrats.

10:57 p.m. - Hastings was left to fend for himself by Illinois Democrats. Pulling off a surprise win in this race could put Dems in an awkward position right out the gate.

10:54 p.m. - Add this to the list of disappointments for Illinois Republicans.

10:52 p.m. - Safe seat but another term for the North Side Chicago Democrat.

10:50 p.m. - Less of a surprise than some of the other Chicago suburban races, but another hold for Democrats.

10:47 p.m. - Safe Democratic district. Bigger question is, does he serve out this term or run for Chicago mayor?

10:44 p.m. - Another closely watched congressional race potentially won by Democrats. Rep. Lauren Underwood may have survived another close race.

10:31 p.m. - All but official. Dems hold on to IL 6.

10:27 p.m. - If you want to see what schadenfreude looks like, it’s this tweet from outgoing Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger.

10:22 p.m. - Sorenson clinging to a narrow lead over King in IL 17.

10:12 p.m. - Another hold for Republicans.

10:10 p.m - A close ally of Trump will return to Washington. Miller ousted fellow Republican Rep. Rodney Davis in the primary, setting herself up for another term in the reliably Republican district.

10:08 p.m. - No surprise here in this race - Democratic district stays blue.

10:06 p.m. - Another sigh of relief for Democrats. Bill Foster appears to have fended off his Republican challenger in the Illinois 11th Congressional race.

10:00 p.m. - Rochford declares victory over Curran. Democrats will hang on to their majority on the state’s high court.

9:56 p.m. - The IL-17 race is seesawing back and forth between Republican Esther Joy King and Democrat Eric Sorensen. This race may not have a winner tonight and could head to a recount considering how close it is.

9:38 p.m. - From Patrick - The Pritzker campaign says Bailey has conceded.

9:32 p.m. - The race for Illinois’s 17th Congressional district is still too close to call but it’s leaning toward Republican Esther Joy King so far.

9:21 p.m. - The press corps at Bailey campaign headquarters reporting the Republican nominee will be speaking shortly.

9:14 p.m. - Important thing to keep in mind about the tight race for Illinois’s 6th congressional district - mail-in ballots will be accepted for two weeks as long as they’re postmarked today. With the race separated by only a few hundred votes currently, who won may not be clear until Thanksgiving.

9:13 p.m. - The Chicago Tribune reports Republican Dan Brady has conceded to Democrat Alexi Giannoulias in the Illinois secretary of state race. Giannoulias will replace outcoming Secretary of State Jesse White.

9:07 p.m. - From Patrick: No word yet from the Bailey campaign even though it’s very clear that they’ve lost this race. We’re reaching the point in the night that it’s getting embarrassing.

9:04 p.m. - A solid Republican district stays in GOP hands.

9:00 p.m. - The race for the 6th Congressional district is razor thin as expected.

8:58 p.m. - The race for Illinois’s 13th Congressional race could be tilting Democrats’ way.

8:54 p.m. - Reaction to the results in Illinois from former Gov. Bruce Rauner’s chief of staff.

8:47 p.m. - Not much of a surprise in either race but two Democratic districts on track to stay blue.

8:43 p.m. - Bailey may speak soon. His race was called by the AP more than an hour and a half ago but he hasn’t conceded yet.

8:26 p.m. - For anyone who missed Pritzker’s victory speech, here’s a thread of his remarks.

8:24 p.m. - A quick breakdown of the vote and why the gubernatorial race has been called for Pritzker. Reminder - land doesn’t vote.

8:17 p.m. - Still no concession from Bailey or his campaign.

8:15 p.m. - Governor Pritzker officially declares victory.

8:09 p.m. - Longtime Chicago Democratic Rep. Danny Davis wins re-election. Davis faced two independent write-in candidates.

8:04 p.m. - So far no sign of Darren Bailey conceding the race. Both Pritzker and Duckworth were projected to win their respective races minutes after the polls closed. Salvi conceded to Duckworth. Reports from Pritzker’s campaign watch party say the governor won’t wait for Bailey to concede to speak.

7:58 p.m. - Republican Kathy Salvi has conceded to Sen. Tammy Duckworth after the Democratic incumbent was quickly projected to win another re-election.

7:24 p.m. - Darren Bailey and his campaign aren’t conceding the race after the quick projections of a Pritzker win.

7:14 p.m. - The AP has also projected another term in the U.S. Senate for Democrat Tammy Duckworth.

7:10 p.m. - That was quick - the AP is calling the race for Illinois governor for J.B. Pritzker. Not necessarily a surprising result, but the margin will be telling for other races around the state.

7:07 p.m. - An important reminder as we await results now that the polls have closed.

7:00p.m.- Polls are now closed. Patrick is on WGN-TV tonight. You can watch here. He’ll jump in as much as he can tonight. But, Ben Garbarek is here to guide us through as the results come in.
