State Representative Chris Miller (R-Oakland) found himself in hot water in the media last week, now he may be in hot water with his Democrat colleagues.

Miller, the husband of freshman Congresswoman Mary Miller, was criticized last week after it was uncovered Miller’s pickup was outside the U.S. Capitol during the January 6 riot. The pickup displayed a window sticker for the “Three percenters,” an anti government militia.

Yesterday, Rep. Bob Morgan (D-Deerfield) filed a resolution condemning Miller for “violating his oath to the Constitution of the United States of America and the Constitution of the State of Illinois.” Democrats are also asking the Legislative Inspector General to look into the matter.

(Disclosure: I worked in a primary against his wife, Congresswoman Mary Miller, last spring. Chris Miller and I had a confrontation in the final days of that campaign.)

One of the 30 or so co-sponsors of the resolution is House Speaker Chris Welch.

UPDATE (7:59 P.M.):

Rep. Morgan says he takes Miller’s actions seriously.

“Supporting and participating in an insurrection against the government is way beyond the pale and violates our oath of office,” he said. “The State of Illinois deserves to know what role Rep. Miller had in the riot of January 6 in Washington, D.C, and that’s why I referred this matter to the Legislative Inspector General for proper investigation.”

It isn’t clear yet if Democrats plan to pursue further action against Miller, including a Special Investigative Committee for “conduct unbecoming to a legislator.”

We reached out to both Morgan and a spokesman for Miller and haven’t heard back.
