Another Day, Another Poll Showing Bailey Leading Irvin Big
Republican pollster Trafalgar Group released a new poll Wednesday showing conservative southern Illinois Sen. Darren Bailey (R-Xenia) leading Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin by 18 points in the June 28 primary.
The poll was conducted Friday though Monday with 1,075 likely Republican primary voters responding.
The result showed Bailey leading Irvin 38%-20%. Venture capitalist Jesse Sullivan was third with 12%. Gary Rabine had 8% and Paul Schimpf had 5%. 16% of voters remained undecided.
Essentially, if the poll holds up, Irvin could capture every remaining undecided voter and still wouldn’t be able to close the gap with Bailey.
“Irvin is toast,” quipped one GOP consultant Wednesday. “It’s all over but the shouting.”
In the U.S. Senate race, retired police officer Peggy Hubbard leads former congressional candidate Kathy Salvi 18%-15%. 49% of Republicans remain undecided.
An Ogden & Fry poll released earlier in the week showed Bailey leading Irvin 31% to 17%. The same poll showed Salvi leading Hubbard 17% to 9%.
